Punkt. Function. Design. Simplicity

In the wake of Milan’s Salone del Mobile, allow me to focus on something that I usually don’t cover much: Design.
Yes, behind the curtain of events, ungainly sponsorships and dj-sets, the Salone is still about Design and, really, this is the only thing you should care about.
Yesterday I attended a lovely brunch (talking about events…) that gave Punkt the opportunity to showcase its newest creation, an alarm clock designed by Jasper Morrison, who also happens to be Punkt’s creative director.
This new item is a perfect example of Punkt approach: a crusade against feature overburden, all in favour of items that are both simple to use and beautiful. Perhaps an even better example is Punkt’s other product, a cordless phone which goes by the name of DP 01. It’s as simple as it gets and exudes beauty, in a Soviet-era-made-stylish way.
Punkt is a smart company based in Lugano, Switzerland. They have a small, international employee base and as I said they managed to have Jasper Morrison on board from the very start. I wish them well and I look forward to a cell-phone in line with their philosophy (yes iPhone, I don’t like you!).
